CLEAN PRODUCTION AGREEMENT (APL): PRODUCERS OF PICA LEMON

 
In 2011, meetings seeking to add value to the core product of the oasis, Pica Lemon, started in order to look for economic sustainability of the sector, and having already obtained the Geographic Indication. The management seeks to begin the process of adding sustainable production and social characteristics. (Organic certification, Water footprint, Carbon footprint and Fair trade).
 
 

The representatives of the city hall in 2011, Jaime Viza Miranda, Municipal Manager, and Jaimy Vega, Agronomist engineer, created a strategic alliance for the cleaner production in Pica Lemon cultivation, in order to improve product quality for export to Europe.

 
 
To improve the irrigation process through maximization of water resources as well as to promote the use of renewable energy in the final process, are some of the advantages that the implementation of strategies for growing clean Pica Lemon production will provide. The beginning of the process was carried out by the Pica city hall, leading the initiative the agronomist of the city hall, Miss Jaimy Vega. In the meeting held in 2011 participated the Executive Secretary of the National Council for Clean Production in the Tarapacá Region (CPL), Mr. Esteban Carreño Pastrián, and the city hall manager of Pica, Jaime Viza Miranda.

Chilean Government Authorities and Manufacturers Pica Lemon, Firman Regional Cleaner Production Agreement Pica Limon.

 

Producers PICA LIMON, in an effort to move towards sustainability and efficiency of the sector, optimize water resources relying on modern irrigation technologies, and progress in the implementation of clean energy for increased productivity and competitiveness, seeking with this a greater energy efficiency, while improving productivity with good agricultural practices and profitability of the sector.
 
Also advancing to add value to agriculture in the district, seeking to develop sustainable features to their agricultural products. Is so dated December 20, 2012, the Clean Production Agreement (APL), PICA LIMON producers, between the Government of Chile and the Consortium for Business Pica Limón, through its representative signed Chairman of Export Company, Mr. Alex Zaror Lama.
 
The Agreement will work with 30 producers Pica Limon , with a term of 24 months, the scope of the agreement and seek:
 
 
  • Reduce by 5 % the consumption of plant protection products , by implementing measures improvements in handling.
  • Reduce solid waste generation by 5% in value and 100% organic solid waste.
  • Reduce by 2% water consumption by differentiated process water (irrigation, washing , harvesting, post-harvest , packing and packaging ) and optimize their use by 2% measured in m3 of water used in the process for tons of product year.
  • Prevent contamination of soil and water , through specific actions related to the management of liquid industrial waste.
  • Reduce energy consumption by 2% and implement at least an alternative to non-renewable energy .
  • Reduce air emissions from burning product , electricity generation and motor vehicle use . Addition of CO2 equivalent product of farming .
  • Protect the health and safety of workers , by implementing a system of preventive occupational risk management in 100% of the member facilities .
  • Organic certification in 100% of the member facilities concerned.
  • Building capacity in personnel, regarding issues of sustainability

 
REGIONAL COMMITTEE FORMED CLEANER PRODUCTION (YEAR 2013)
 
«First solemn session of the regional committee of Cleaner Production 2013», takes effect on Wednesday, August 21 at 16:00 hours, in the boardroom of the Regional Government of Tarápaca, located at 1099 Avenida Arturo Prat, Iquique (Municipality).
 

The Regional Secretariat for Cleaner Production of Tarapaca , according to the provisions of Law No. 20,146 and its regulations, will implement this year 2013 an operational design to incorporate within the Clean Production Agreements (APL ) the » Promotion Programs Compliance » (PPC ) and other incentives under this legislation.
Similarly , APL will be developed with the full implementation of the Act and its regulations , measuring economic, environmental and social impacts they generate , in addition to considering the inclusion of Best Available Technologies (BAT ) and indicators Reduction Greenhouse Gas (GHG ).
Similarly you should put a special emphasis on engaging in this strategy to productive activities SMEs , designing mechanisms to achieve the certification that segment at the end of the APL .
 
Also be promoted and implemented support services to SMEs in the Branch Clean Technologies , in order to collaborate for smaller companies in the region of Tarapaca improve their production efficiency and competitiveness, which will be visits to the CPL field experts , such as the development of community workshops with SME entrepreneurs on topics of interest, to improve production efficiency.
First Solemn Session of the Regional Committee Cleaner Production , on Wednesday, August 21 will be held at 16:00 pm in the Board Room of the Regional Government .
 

 
REGIONAL COMMITTEE MISSION
 
 
El COMITÉ REGIONAL PÚBLICO-PRIVADO DE PRODUCCIÓN LIMPIA DE LA REGIÓN DE TARAPACÁ, en adelante tiene como misión ser un articulador de iniciativas entre el sector público y privado, con el fin de promover y facilitar el desarrollo e impacto de la producción limpia en la Región de Tarapacá.
 
Para ello, en esta sesión se dará a conocer la agenda del Programa de Producción Limpia en la
Región de Tarapacá y los alcances de los futuros Acuerdos de Producción Limpia, que impulsa la Secretaría Regional.
